Senator Jeff Merkley Recognizes MFS for Advancing Clean Energy Access

We are thrilled to be recognized by Senator Jeff Merkley for our efforts in making clean energy and transportation more accessible to underserved communities.

As the Senator shared: “Tackling climate chaos is one of the greatest challenges of our time—and part of the solution is transitioning to renewable energy and electric vehicles. We’ve got to connect folks with the resources they need to make that transition happen. One group making that critical connection for low-income communities and communities of color in Oregon is Metropolitan Family Service. It was wonderful to learn more about their Electric Ways to Work program—they’re supercharging our move to renewable energy by connecting our communities with cleaner transportation!"

Our Portland Electric Ways to Work program, in collaboration with the Portland Clean Energy Fund, is designed to bridge the gap for low-income communities and communities of color by offering equitable access to electric vehicles and sustainable transportation options. Through this initiative, we’re empowering communities to embrace cleaner, greener ways of getting around while reducing carbon emissions and promoting climate resilience.

A key part of this work is our MFS AmeriCorps program. Our passionate AmeriCorps members are deeply involved in climate resilience and carbon reduction efforts. By engaging directly with the communities we serve, they help us build capacity to address climate-related challenges and ensure that the solutions we implement reflect the needs and voices of those most impacted.

At MFS, we’re dedicated to ensuring all members of our community have the tools and resources to thrive in a sustainable, clean energy future. Thank you, Senator Merkley, for your support and for championing the importance of renewable energy for all!
